INCOSE’s certification formally confirms a systems engineer’s competency through demonstrated knowledge, education, and experience. The Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) program offers multiple levels, recognizing systems engineers at every career stage.
The certification levels
- ASEP: the Associate Systems Engineering Professional recognizes individuals who wish to be recognized as knowledgeable but without demonstrated experience. The qualification for the ASEP is possession of systems engineering knowledge typical of a junior systems engineer, as evidenced by passing the knowledge exam.
- CSEP: the Certified Systems Engineering Professional recognizes practitioners who have demonstrated knowledge and experience in many aspects of the discipline. The qualifications for this level include education, knowledge and experience that serve the various job profiles of an experienced, all-round systems engineer.
- ESEP: the Expert Systems Engineering Professional distinguishes systems engineers who have themselves demonstrated both substantial experience and technical leadership.

How to get certified
Certification is administered by INCOSE International, which manages the application, the knowledge exam and the review of experience for each level. INCOSE members pay a reduced certification fee, so it is worth becoming a member first.
